How Drone Photography Can Help Property Developers in London

There are some quite spectacular locations in London and equally many new developments around London ranging from the relatively modest help-to-buy properties such as the Woodberry Down development to mid-high level developments like Riverwalk in Vauxhall (prices starting at £1.1M via Savills) to the lavish £16M+ penthouses such as the prestigious One Blackfriars development in SE1. Because of the weakened pound, often these developments are sold off-plan to foreign investors who sometimes do not visit the proposed development location. Another hot development trend is the building of student accommodation by investment companies such as Legal and General.

Drones can be a valuable tool when utilised to enhance operations during the different stages of the planning, construction and marketing of these properties when used in conjunction with conventional ground-based techniques. During the planning phase, drones can capture top-down plan shots of the proposed building area, either to be used as-is or with 3D photo realistic renderings merged with the aerial shots. See this example we did for an architectural firm recently.

Alternatively, the proposed build site may be digitally mapped using the drone and 3D mapping software. Further down the process, construction may also be monitored in phases by repeated drone time-lapses which show the development over the duration of the build. And finally once the development is complete, overview video and stills of the building and surrounding areas can also be used to help market the development on the relevant social platforms as well as directly sent to potential investors and home owners.

Drone overviews offer a significantly more informative and impressive overview of where potential clients will be buying and can take the form of short videos or stills.

Conventional street level views by their very nature cannot offer the same insight to the scale and relative position of what clients are buying in to as drone photography or videography.

On a final note, please be aware that it is an offence to hire a drone photographer or videographer or to carry out ANY commercial drone operations in the UK without a PfCO (Permission for Commercial Operations) from the CAA and have valid public liability insurance for drone work.
